THE ASSOCIATION WIGWAM CLUB GIARDINI STORICI VENEZIA
The Wigwam Club Giardini Storici Venezia is a non-profit association created to enhance the precious heritage of historic gardens, promoting knowledge of the environmental and artistic components to understand, protect and respect them.
Having become a fundamental point of reference in the field of gardens, both Venetian and historical, and frequently cited as an example by the Italian and foreign press, it currently has over a thousand members in Italy and abroad.
The first idea dates back to 2000 when Mariagrazia Dammicco (at that time advisor to the Wigwam Club Giardini Storici di Padova) and the historian and botanist Letizia Querenghi organized for a group of friends, experts and garden lovers a guided tour of the gardens of the convent of the Redeemer on the island of Giudecca. The enthusiastic response convinced them to form an association.
A few months later, the Ministry for the Environment and the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities gave their patronage to the Wigwam project “Historical Gardens of Veneto”. The first official initiative was a guided tour of the park on the island of San Giorgio with over two hundred visitors in two days, including adults, children and young people, accompanied by the discovery of the avenues with the large trees and the picturesque Green Theatre.
